Like Hhgregg, Fry’s Electronics is a regional electronics retailer that provides an alternative to massive chains such as Best Buy. Fry’s is well-known in California, and also has stores across another eight states for in-store Black Friday shopping, but many of its deals will be available through its website.
Fry’s is always good for some Apple sales, though this year’s discounts may not be as extensive as in years past. There are no iPad specials in its ad, for instance, though that’s been the case for many other retailers this Black Friday. Also, don’t be fooled by the MacBook Pro special: The low $799 price is for a previous generation laptop, not the controversial recent refresh. Better is the MacBook Air deal for $999 for the pricier 13.3-inch version with twice the solid-state storage, and the highest-priced 27-inch iMac with 5k Retina display (Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 2TB Fusion drive) for $1999, or $300 off the regular price.
Other tablet deals are limited to Naxa brand Android tablets (a 9-inch version for $39 and 10-inch model for $49) and an Ematic 8-inch Windows 10 tablet with a keyboard case for just $58. In order to get these prices, however, you need to sign up for Fry’s email list to obtain promo codes to snare these discounts.
Fry’s uses this strategy of offering promo codes for email sign ups for several laptop deals, such as a dirt-cheap Dell Inspiron 11 with Intel Celeron CPU, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of built-in storage, and an 11.6-inch screen for just $98 and a budget Lenovo Ideapad 110 with Intel Pentium N3710 processor, 4GB of RAM, 1TB hard, and 15.6-inch display for $198 via the promo code. Other promo code laptop specials include the Acer Aspire ES (Intel Core i3 processor, 4 gigs of RAM, 1TB hard, 15.6-inch display) for $238 with the code, the Lenovo Flex 4 with Core i7, 16GB of memory, 256GB SSD, and 15.6-inch full HD touchscreen for $798, and even a gaming laptop in the form of the MSI GL62 6QF-1446 with Core i7, 8GB of RAM, 1TB hard drive, Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M graphics, and 15.6-inch full HD display for $698.
As with some of the notebook deals, Fry’s most enticing desktop PC Black Friday sale — a $49 HP — is a refurbished system, so pay particular care in reading the fine print. There is a mid-range tower that is new and discounted, however. The Acer Aspire X comes with an Intel Core i7 processor, 4GB of RAM, terabyte hard drive, and built-in Wi-Fi for $449 with the promo code, or $250 off the list price.
